Turning Violet Violet - (Set time: 11:30 PM)

Philadelphia based indie band, Turning violet Violet has been described as, "an indie outfit around a couple of years now that merges chamber-pop, jazzy textures, and quirky, literate storytelling in sharp and elegant arrangements [Michael Alan Goldberg, Philly weekly]." Their new EP, Fierce Remains, combines TvV's unique instrumentation with bold vocal lines and rich storytelling.

The Vanguard - (Set time: 10:30 PM)

In order to create the Vanguard, Zeus pinned a gigantic map of the world to the wall in his office. He picked up four golden darts. Blindfolded, he reached for the first dart, drew his hand back and flung it to the map. "Ah I see, the singer shall be from the mountains of Virginia," and so, Aaron Barr was born. Flying through the air, the second dart dropped down in Przemysl, Poland. "How cute, a potato baby will be the guitarist." The next was raised and thrown, descending upon the spot of earth called Serbia. "This little guy will witness the partition of his country. This will make him very good on the keys and bass guitar." The creator reached for the final dart, but stopped before throwing it." I need someone steady and dependable, unlike those other kookie kids. A drummer to hold the beat to the music." He let it fly and it touched down in Buenos Aires, Argentina. "Young man you will be the drummer," the creator told the tango baby who had yet to be born. And, my friends, the rest is history. Since then, The Vanguard were featured on Matt Pinfield's Morning Show on 101.9 RXP. They have played every noteworthy venue in NYC and were featured in a half-dozen SXSW 09 showcases. They also played The Exit festival in Serbia along with a 7 day UK Tour, MPMF in Cincinnati, Miami Music Festival and their video for "Both Sides" was featured on MTVu. SPIN.com named them a buzzworthy up-and-coming band because of their "bubbling melting pot of sounds, influences, and ethnic backgrounds." With their second EP 'Playtime!' about to be released this fall, The Vanguard are gearing up to hit the road for their next international tour. - Maria Clark

Gemini Wolf - (Set time: 9:30 PM)

emini Wolf is psychedeltronic. The band is centered around the creative nucleus of Pandar and Mikronesia. This life cycle has seen its fair share of incarnations over the years. Around the release of their second full length album, Synchronized Eyes, Gemini Wolf is sounding more like a krautrock aftrobeat shaman dancing in a sometimes crowded club in a post apocalyptic Berlin .

Synchronized Eyes was written mostly on old analog music machines over the winter of 2008/9. Mikronesia and Pandar fleshed out the songs with a string quartet, afro-pop horn sections, MIDI madness and thick tribal percussion. Mikronesia and Pandar are happy to collaborate once again with long-time Wolf drummer Gary Dann on several key tracks. An array of Philadelphia based musical visionaries graced the landscape of the album. The album features collaborators and members from some of Philadelphia's most well known and most dynamic musicians including cohorts of West Philadelphia Orchestra, Normal Love, Animia, Shot X Shot, Calvin Weston and loving contributions from master drummer/percussionist, Jimmy Coleman.

Meg & Rob Hosting!

Meg & Rob make the sort of comedy that only two people who have escaped from the world of TV shopping can: absurd, dark, and smart, combining a hilarious helping of sales-pitch schlock with history and a dash of horror-movie creepiness.

The group is comprised of Meg Favreau and Rob Baniewicz, two people who firmly believe that if they went by their last names, no one would pronounce them correctly. They formed Meg & Rob while working at QVC (yes, that QVC) in 2006. Since then Meg & Rob have been featured all over the country, including at the 2009 Chicago Sketchfest, 2009 & 2007 Boston Comedy Festivals, and 2008 Seattle Sketchfest. Combining video, energetic live performance, and solid writing, Meg & Rob take the stage with confidence and wit whether they’re exploring the lives of divorced vaudevillians, timesharing children, or discovering whether living on the moon really is like being in heaven.
