Crocodiles - (Set time: 10:45 PM)
Crocodiles
Dirty, stripped down Jesus and Mary Chain style wallop combined with bits of experimental noise, bluesy swagger, and dense shoegazey goodness. The Crocodiles seem to reevaluate tried and true styles of rock from the past while injecting some fresh new blood into the proceedings. All the while they thankfully avoid falling into the trap of presenting themselves as some retro revival act, though they do have some mighty impressive hair. This is sure to appeal to those of you digging the lo-fi pop bliss of Wavves, Kurt Vile, No Age, and Crystal Stilts. From San Diego. Fat Possum
Nothing - (Set time: 9:30 PM)
Nothing
Nothing continues their beady sights on 90's UK pop to cultivate a shimmering update on the gazey soundscapes of time's past. Seamlessly flitting between breathless wonderment and a laconic lull, Downward Years to Come (the second EP, a 12" on A389 Records) is shared songwriting 'tween Dominic Palermo and Brandon Setta. It coaxes four tracks of thrumming, dreamless indie-rock categorized by undulating song structures, effervescent chimes and lockstep pounding rhythms softly driving themselves into the soft white ether of the listening brain.
Dewey-eyed wonder and blissful misanthropy are all encapsulated in the microscopic in-betweens. The dazzling dichotomies of life and death. God, drugs, sex, retro and (lord willing) a catastrophic apocalypse can all be found.
Nothing give all, arms abreast and cheeks aglow to the present. To the future and to the downward years sure to come.
