Spelling Reform - (Set time: 11:00 PM)
Spelling Reform
Philadelphia indie group Spelling Reform continues to evolve on their new LP "No One’s Ever Changed," out November 18, 2016 on Black Rd Records. Building off their 2015 EP "Diving Bell," the band delivers more of their eclectic, distinctive sound – snarling pop rock, indie rock and power pop, plus somber sing-alongs and melodic guitar solos. The tunes are anchored by singer/songwriter Dan Wisniewski’s feverous lyrics and urgent vocals, which have drawn comparisons to The Mountain Goats, Dan Bejar and Woody Allen (for real). Recorded in a single, donut-fueled weekend with producer (and Hop Along guitarist) Joe Reinhart at The Headroom in Philadelphia, "No One's Ever Changed" makes for a fascinating listen, with well-formed songs, energetic delivery and varied instrumentation. For fans of The Weakerthans and Pixies.
Night Windows - (Set time: 10:00 PM)
Night Windows
With a bachelor's degree worth of debt and a series of unrelated day jobs to pay it back, Ben Hughes is a poster boy for the bursted-bubble millennial generation. He sings about being part of a downtrodden blue-collar work force, helping loved ones through hard times, and clinging desperately to his musician dreams which ebb to the margins of his days. Now, with Ryan Buzby & Tad Lecuyer, Night Windows has grown from its solo-bedroom-project origins into an Indie Rock band that has been gaining traction in the booming Philly music scene. Night Windows frequently draws comparisons to early Weezer, The Get Up Kids, The Shins, The Replacements & Built to Spill.
Cherry - (Set time: 9:00 PM)
Cherry's first songs were written in the Philadelphia bedroom of Russell Edling. Recorded slowly to an 8-track tape machine, Edling used the physical limitations of the machine to his advantage. Free of the wormhole of endless tracks and overdubs, Cherry's first contribution to planet earth, a 4-song EP called Gloom, is an exploration into making the most within a confined space. Gloom is full of awkward edits, fuzz and hiss revolving around classic pop formations and repeating hooks, a great introduction to a special new band.
