Kneebody - (Set time: 10:30 PM)
Kneebody
Of their latest CD release event in LA, The Los Angeles Times reports, "it's probably safe to assume at this point that no other band working today can offer what Kneebody deliver." A "resolutely un-pindownable band" (The New York Times), Grammy-nominated quintet Kneebody generates explosive rock energy paralleled with high-level chamber ensemble playing, and highly wrought compositions balanced with adventurous no-holds-barred improvising. All "sounds-like" references can be set aside as the band has created a genre and style all its own. Made up of keyboardist Adam Benjamin, trumpeter Shane Endsley, electric bassist Kaveh Rastegar, saxophonist Ben Wendel and drummer Nate Wood, each band member has amassed an impressive list of credits and accomplishments over the years while continuing to thrive and grow in reputation, solidifying a fan base around the world. Kneebody draws upon influences spanning D'Angelo's Voodoo to music by Elliot Smith, Bill Frisell, and Miles Davis. Their live shows are known for intense sonic landscapes of the Radiohead ilk, for the rhythmic bombast of a Squarepusher or Queens of the Stone Age show, and the harmonic depth and improvisational freedom experienced at a Brad Mehldau concert. "Cohesion is the truest constant in the music of Kneebody, a band that inhabits the borderland abutted by post-bop, indie-rock and hip-hop, without seeming to give much thought to the borders" (The New York Times). The band made their Concord Records debut in 2013 with the release of their fourth album, The Line.
Vertical Current - (Set time: 9:15 PM)
Vertical Current
Vertical Current is a band on the rise, a name on the lips of music lovers in one of the greatest musical cities in America, Philadelphia. The band was started in 2009 by local trumpeter and composer Christopher Stevens, while pursuing a music degree from Temple University. Since then, Vertical Current has become the go to band for visiting artists from the likes of Grammy Award winner Kelly Price to the awe-inspiring Frank McComb. Additionally, the band has opened for a number of notable artists including The Robert Glasper Experiment, Raheem DeVaughn, and Eric Roberson with whom they later did a summer/fall tour promoting his album, The Box.

Individually, the members of Vertical Current have traveled throughout the world, performing and recording with an array of celebrated and award winning artists including Roberta Flack, John Legend, Jazmine Sullivan, Jill Scott, The Roots, and more. It's no surprise that their interaction with such amazing artists and composers has further kindled Vertical Current’s passion to create and perform at the highest level.

VC's brand of music is a unique blend of genres that is intended to uplift and inspire. The band currently has two CDs available, their eclectic 2011 debut EP “aRe” (co-produced by Philadelphia hit-maker Donald Robinson) and their first full-length project “Bright Side of Midnight” which was released in the summer of 2014. The band has been busy crafting fresh material for their next album and hopes to further inspire the world with great melodies and a message of hope!
