Modern Inventors - (Set time: 11:15 PM)
Modern Inventors
Modern Inventors have devised their own unique musical niche in a staggeringly short amount of time, but Matt Kass and Josh Benus are not in the business of cheap thrills. The Philadelphia-based duo, whose debut album “Trains & Aeroplanes” will be self-released in December 2012, craft songs as if they were pieces of abstract art that patiently blossom into view; carefully rendered arrangements, heartbreaking harmonies and dense turns of phrases slowly creep up into the foreground upon repeated listens. The single “Hello,” for instance, is an ode to suburban teenage angst inspired by acclaimed American painter Eric Fischl. “Goodbye Northbrook Drive” segues a rustic folk composition into a massive crescendo that prods at feelings of emotional paralysis. And then there’s the group’s pop-infused cover of Paul McCartney’s “Every Night” — which has earned praise from Macca himself.
Hezekiah Jones - (Set time: 10:15 PM)
Hezekiah Jones
Hezekiah Jones is the musical nom de plume for Raphael Cutrufello and a band of like-minded musicians crafting alternative folk music. His catalog of songs sometimes sounds like a post-apocalyptic White Album, as covered by Sufjan Stevens. The biting, sometimes campy vibe only serves to intensify the blow of his sucker-punch ballads. Songs are filled with outlandish characters, imagined landscapes..., ringing harmonies, and baroque instrumental flourishes, but never disconnect from the tangible feelings at their center.

Shark Tape - (Set time: 9:15 PM)
Shark Tape
Shark Tape is a three piece rock and roll outfit from Philadelphia, PA. Influenced by the sweet sounds of the Replacements, Echo and the Bunnymen and Roy Orbison, Shark Tape’s catalogue sounds like a mixtape of your favorite songs from a parallel universe. With two EP’s under their belt (2012’s “Shark Tape” and “Eyes On You”) the band will release their full length record in summer 2014.
