Work Drugs - (Set time: 11:15 PM)
Work Drugs
Work Drugs specialize in cocktails-compatible indie pop inspired by the soft rock era of artists like Christopher Cross and Donald Fagen, but with a lo-fi spark. (They've embraced the label "smooth-fi.") The group was formed in Philadelphia by singer/multi-instrumentalists Thomas Crystal and Benjamin Louisiana. They self-released Work Drugs' full-length debut, Summer Blood, in mid-2011 before partnering with Chicago-based Bobby Cahn Records, which released a flurry of records that followed. After the song "Rad Racer" from their debut was featured in a commercial for Urban Outfitters later that summer, their second album, Aurora Lies, came out in November. A set of acoustic versions of existing songs, Cayman Islands Sessions, arrived before the end of the year. In 2012, they released both Absolute Bearing and Delta, with the Amore EP following in February 2013. Another full-length set, Mavericks, appeared that summer. Still with Bobby Cahn Records, their sixth LP of original material, Insurgents, arrived in March 2014, with Runaways on its heels that fall and Cayman Islands Sessions, Vol. 2 in December. In the meantime, Work Drugs maintained a regular touring schedule, usually with an expanded lineup, earning support slots for bands spanning Two Door Cinema Club, Peter Bjorn and John, Umphrey's McGee, and Battles, to name a few. Still sporting a tranquil, yacht-side vibe, the band issued Louisa in the summer of 2015. That fall, they recorded Method Acting, which was released in August 2016. They are currently in support of their most recent effort, ‘Holding on to Forever.’
The City And Horses - (Set time: 10:15 PM)
The City And Horses
The City and Horses is a Philadelphia-based recording project and band led by children's TV producer, Marc Cantone. The group genre-bends the indie pop spectrum from lofi folk to power to chamber to synth.
They have released three albums, “I Don’t Want to Dream,” “We Will Never Be Discovered” and, most recently, “Strange Range” on Paper Garden Records. This new album finds the band expanding on their quirky indie pop persona with a (strange) range of songs that touch on the sadomasochism of anxiety disorders, the real or imagined simplicity of the 1990s and lovingly loveless relationships.
Though the band never tours and rarely performs, they have been featured on NPR, iTunes, WXPN, Indie Shuffle, BreakThru Radio, Magnet Magazine, LastFM, RCRD LBL and more.
Teen Men - (Set time: 9:15 PM)
Teen Men
Teen Men is a Wilmington, DE / Philadelphia, PA based collaboration between two musicians and two visual artists. Teen Men includes members of the Spinto Band (singer Nick Krill and guitarist Joe Hobson) and their new music takes a similar pop aesthetic and dedication to songwriting inspired by Quincy Jones’ work with Michael Jackson and mixes it with samples and electronic / ambient tones reminiscent of Vangelis. The visual artists (Photographer Catharine Maloney and Filmmaker Albert Birney) add an important element to the group, most notably a video projection synced to the live show that the band and audience members interact with.
