Starcrawler - (Set time: 11:00 PM)
Starcrawler
Starcrawler are a Los Angeles rock & roll band formed one year ago when Arrow de Wilde first met Henri Cash on the high school yard in Echo Park. The rhythm section of Austin Smith and Tim Franco came soon after, found on the streets of Hollywood. They play rock & roll music heavy and loud and their incendiary performances resemble the children of the Cramps, the Yeah Yeahs Yeahs, and Alice Cooper.

"Ants," a song they recorded days after first playing together, was quickly discovered by London DJ Matt Wilkinson and debuted on Apple Beats One radio just as the band were playing their first few shows. The DJ loved it so much, he played it twice in a row. Soon after, it found its way to Sir Elton John, who spun it on his "Rocket Hour" radio program, as well as to Zane Lowe, who played it to further accolades. Much media interest both from the music and fashion worlds has quickly followed. "Ants" & the forthcoming "Used to Know" are from an early session recorded by Steven McDonald (Red Kross) and document the unhinged beginnings of the group taking their first steps into the public eye. They have only now found the time to take a breath and are recording their more fully realized debut LP at Pax Am studios in Hollywood with Ryan Adams producing, due out later this year.

As a group, Starcrawler embodies that strange archetypal mojo that one finds in certain gangs of young rockers, only once or twice a generation; all the while still kicking and screaming as they sprint toward finding something new and entirely of their own. The band consists of Arrow de Wilde on lead vocals, Henri Cash on guitar, Austin Smith on drums, and Tim Franco on bass.
Sundown Club - (Set time: 10:00 PM)
Sundown Club
Sundown Club is making their debut in the Chicago music scene with a sultry blend of spaghetti western and contemporary rock'n'roll. The band's five members, led by Brandon Reed (guitar, vocals) formerly of the Holy Motors, Miles Malin (guitar, vocals), Nick Tuminello (drums) both from The Evening Attraction, Ryan Fields (guitar) and Colleen Fazio (bass) of Cavern Sounds. The music features an eclectic range of sounds, influenced by artists such as Lee Hazlewood and Scott Walker, with memorable riffs and deep, echoing vocals.

The band's debut single, “Sweet Rose,” was recorded analog straight to tape through the Trident TSM mixing board, previously used by Queen and the Rolling Stones at Treehouse Records. The single features a wide array of instrumentation including strings arranged by Macie Stewart (OHMME and Kids These Days), making for a cinematic sound.
Pine Barons - (Set time: 9:00 PM)
Pine Barons
Born among the pitch pines of southern New Jersey, Pine Barons is a project that came to fruition as friends gathered around campfires in the nature-rich environments of their hometowns. The band’s beginnings can be traced back to lead vocalist and guitarist, Keith Abrams, and drummer, Collin Smith, meeting in preschool and eventually playing in a series of bands together, getting to know their instruments in their parents’ basements as well as outdoors, adventuring around, exploring an eclectic and intimate palette of punk, jazz and psychedelic rock.

Combining forces with guitar player, Brad Pulley, bassist, Shane Hower and keyboardist, Alex Beebe, the full Pine Barons lineup formed in 2012. New material blended the raw, lo-fi energy of those early days with an infusion of folk, roots and emo. Releasing their first EP in 2013, songs such as “Smile America” and “Carnival” would prove the songwriting and lyrical abilities of these young musicians and set the stage for the next evolution of their multifaceted sound. In one particular instance, the band dripped coffee on a cassette tape to achieve a deteriorating production quality, acutely aware of how such sonic choices would affect the listener from an early stage.

Five years after the group’s formation, Pine Barons proudly unveils their debut LP, The Acchin Book. Eleven tracks of nuanced and emotional rock, the breadth of the band’s collective imagination shines through cohesively and unabashedly. Recorded in Philadelphia at Headroom Studios, songs like “Clowns” and “Hourcoat” masterfully navigate complex rhythms and impassioned vocals, combined with memorable melodies and jazzy flourishes. The nostalgic yet forward-thinking qualities of groups like Animal Collective, Modest Mouse and Velvet Underground come to mind as the record unravels.

Much of The Acchin Book’s unique quality comes from the auxiliary instruments and recording techniques used; feathered paper dragged across paintings, field recordings in the woods at night, accordion, string arrangements and bowed guitars all contributing to the various moods and textures of the record. The songs comprise a collective of philosophical vignettes, each track inhabiting a different setting while dealing with intertwined anxieties about living one’s life and trying to be a good person. While endlessly relatable, it’s a record that could only have been made by these five individuals, whose paths crossing are as much a part of the story as any other found in The Acchin Book.
